The VOT XX inscription records a vow renewed at the twentieth anniversary of imperial rule — in Constantius I's case, this places the issue in connection with the Vicennalia celebrations, though Constantius had only recently been elevated to Caesar under Diocletian's Tetrarchic reorganization in 293. The votive formula was a constitutional fiction of sorts, applied to the college of emperors collectively rather than to any individual reign, which makes attributing these numerals to a specific ruler's tenure genuinely complicated for modern catalogers.
The Rome mint resumed large-scale bronze production under Diocletian's monetary reforms of 294, which overhauled denominations and standardized weight across western workshops. RIC VI 87a places this piece in the earliest phase of that reformed output.
