| Beschrijving keerzijde | A standing figure of Genius, the personified divine guardian of the Roman people, depicted nude with a chlamys draped over the left shoulder and wearing a modius (grain measure) atop the head, symbolizing fertility and abundance. The figure stands facing left, extending a patera in the right hand for libation and holding a cornucopiae in the left hand, emblems of prosperity and divine favour. The composition is typical of the Tetrarchic Genius reverse type, rendered in a robust late antique style with confident, somewhat schematic modelling. The reverse legend is divided on either side of the central figure, and no mintmark appears in the exergue or field, which is characteristic of this early Londinium issue (RIC VI, 39). |
