The portrait conveys the rank of Caesar rather than Augustus, consistent with Gallus's subordinate imperial status during this period. |

| Description du revers | A helmeted Roman soldier stands to the left, bearing a shield on his left arm, spearing a falling enemy horseman with his right hand; a second shield lies on the ground to the lower right. The barbarian horseman, bareheaded, is shown falling from his mount, turning his head back to face the attacking soldier while extending his left arm in a gesture of supplication or defense. The FEL TEMP REPARATIO type belongs to the 'falling horseman' series, one of the most prolific reverse designs of the mid-fourth century. Control letters S appear in the left field and A below the horseman, with the officina letter and mintmark SIRM visible in the exergue. |
