The effigy presents the prince in military attire with paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The encircling Latin legend reads D N CONSTAN-TIVS NOB CS, identifying him by his titles Dominus Noster and Nobilissimus Caesar. Constantius Gallus was appointed Caesar of the East by his cousin Constantius II in 351, but the appointment was a calculated gamble — Gallus proved erratic and brutal in his administration of Antioch, eventually executing officials without imperial sanction. Constantius II had him recalled and beheaded in 354, making his Caesar-ship one of the shortest and most violent of the late empire. The FEL TEMP REPARATIO ("happy times restored") coinage was struck across multiple eastern mints simultaneously as deliberate propaganda following the defeat of the usurper Magnentius, and Cyzicus was among the most productive of those mints during Gallus's tenure.
