Reverse description A Roman soldier or imperial horseman, armed with spear, is depicted on horseback to the left, thrusting downward at a fallen enemy barbarian who raises his hands in supplication beneath the horse. This scene embodies the FEL TEMP REPARATIO ('Restoration of Happy Times') propaganda type, one of the most widespread reverse designs of the mid-fourth century. The legend FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO is distributed in two lines around the periphery. The mint signature, incorporating the SMN monogram for Nicomedia and an officina letter, appears in the exergue. A beaded border frames the entire composition.
