正面描述 Bareheaded, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constantius Gallus as Caesar facing right, rendered in the late Roman military portrait style. The figure displays a youthful effigy with paludamentum knotted at the shoulder and segmented cuirass visible at the truncation. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N CONSTAN-TIVS NOB C, identifying the subject as a noble Caesar. The coin shows heavy patination and surface encrustation consistent with long burial, partially obscuring fine detail in the field. The flan presents an irregular edge with a notable chip to the right.

附加信息

Constantius Gallus was appointed Caesar in 351 by his cousin Constantius II, largely out of dynastic necessity — the emperor needed a reliable deputy for the East while he dealt with the usurper Magnentius in the West. The arrangement was uneasy from the start. Gallus ruled from Antioch with increasing brutality, executing officials and provoking enough outrage that Constantius summoned and had him killed in 354, leaving this Caesar's coinage a relatively compressed issue of just four years.

The Heraclea mint, one of the more productive eastern facilities of the period, assigned RIC VIII 91 to Gallus's FEL TEMP REPARATIO series — the same reverse type struck simultaneously across nearly every mint in the empire under Constantius II's unifying monetary program.
