The VRBS ROMA commemorative series was struck from 330 AD onward to mark the formal dedication of Constantinople, with Rome itself honored in parallel as the elder capital — a political balancing act by Constantine I that acknowledged the empire's shifting center of gravity without formally demoting the original city. The Aquileia mint, strategically positioned at the head of the Adriatic, was one of several western workshops activated for this issue. The "F" officina mark places this piece among the later sequences from that mint, corresponding to the narrowed date range of 335–336.
