The VRBS ROMA issue was introduced in 330 AD to commemorate the formal dedication of Constantinople as the empire's new eastern capital — a political gesture that required Rome itself to be honored in equal measure, however symbolically. Trier's mint, one of the most productive in the western empire during Constantine's reign, struck this type in substantial numbers across several officinae.
RIC VII 553 places this emission firmly within the Trier sequence for 333–334, distinguished by specific mintmark combinations on the exergue.
