The VRBS ROMA issue was inaugurated in 330 AD to mark the formal dedication of Constantinople as the new imperial capital — a political rebranding exercise as much as a commemorative one. Trier, one of the most productive western mints of the era, struck this type across multiple officinae, and RIC VII 522 represents a specific emission from that workshop datable to the 330–331 window by its reverse exergue mark.
Trier's output during this period was enormous, which explains why these survive in reasonable numbers despite nearly seventeen centuries of attrition.
