| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constantine I facing right, rendered in the authoritative imperial style characteristic of the Constantinian period. The emperor's effigy displays a prominent laureate wreath and paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend IMP CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays the bold, idealized facial features typical of Tetrarchic and early Constantinian die-cutting at the Treveri mint. The coin shows a dark green patina consistent with prolonged burial. |

The VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP type was struck across multiple western mints in the immediate aftermath of Constantine's decisive victory over Licinius at the Battle of Cibalae in October 316. The Treveri mint — modern Trier, then one of the empire's most productive western workshops — issued this type bearing the PTR and STR mintmarks across several officinae. RIC VII 209 specifically places this among the Treveri emissions of the second officina.
Trier at this moment was effectively an imperial capital in all but name, with the mint operating under intense pressure to supply donatives for troops loyal to Constantine's expanding western court.
