RIC VII 150 belongs to a brief window at Arelate (modern Arles) when Constantine was consolidating sole control of the western provinces following his defeat of Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge in 312. The Sol Invictus coinage remained politically useful throughout the 310s — Constantine had not yet committed exclusively to Christian patronage, and the unconquered sun offered a theologically flexible image acceptable to a mixed court.
The C S officina mark places this among the later Arelate strikes of the type before the mint shifted focus during the Licinian conflicts of 318–320.
