Obverse description Helmeted and pearl-diademed bust of the personification of Constantinopolis facing left, draped in imperial mantle, with a reversed spear held in the right hand. The portrait is rendered in the late Roman imperial style, with a crested helmet and strong facial features characteristic of Constantinian civic personifications. The obverse legend encircles the bust, identifying the city. No visible obverse exergue.

Reverse description Winged Victory, draped, stands left upon the prow of a galley, holding a long spear in her right hand and resting a shield upon the ground with her left. The composition alludes to naval dominance and the glory of the new imperial capital. The exergue contains a dot followed by the mint and officina marks. The reverse field is plain, focusing attention on the Victory figure and the prow beneath her feet.
