Reverse description Naked, helmeted Mars stands facing right, depicted as the divine patron and protector of the emperor. He holds an inverted vertical spear downward in his right hand, while his left arm rests upon a large round shield set on the ground. A military cloak (paludamentum) drapes over his left shoulder, and the field is divided by the legend with the mintmark S and A flanking the figure in the exergue area.
