PACI PERPET — "Eternal Peace" — was struck at Rome in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Milvian Bridge, October 312 AD. Constantine had just defeated Maxentius, whose body was fished from the Tiber and decapitated. The Rome mint, previously loyal to Maxentius, was now rapidly reorienting its output to flatter the new master of the West, and peace iconography served that political pivot efficiently.
RIC VI 357 is a scarce type within the Rome sequence for this brief transitional window before the mint's output shifted again under the Edict of Milan arrangements of 313.
