正面描述 Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constans I facing right, wearing a pearl diadem with a single row of beads. The emperor's portrait is rendered in the late Roman military style characteristic of the Constantinian dynasty, with the drapery visible at the shoulder. The encircling obverse legend reads D N CONSTANS P F AVG, identifying the emperor as Our Lord Constans, Pious and Felix Augustus. The field is plain and slightly irregular due to the hammered flan. The portrait displays the strong, idealized features typical of mid-fourth-century Alexandrian mint production.

附加信息

The VOT XX MVLT XXX legend marks a specific dynastic moment: the vicennalia of Constans and his brothers, celebrating twenty years of their reign and vowing thirty more. The vow coinage of 347–348 was a coordinated imperial propaganda exercise struck simultaneously across multiple mints, Alexandria among them. RIC VIII #34 places this piece in the Alexandrian sequence precisely.

Alexandria's output for this type is distinguishable by its mint marks, and the eastern fabric tends toward harder bronze than contemporary western issues.
