The VICTORIAE DD AVGG Q NN type — "Victories of our two Augustuses" — was struck jointly for Constans and his brother Constantius II during a period of uneasy co-rule following their violent consolidation of power after the death of Constantine I. A third brother, Constantine II, had already been killed in a failed invasion of Constans' territory in 340, leaving just two rulers to share the legend. The Aquileia mint was a primary western production center, and the AQ mintmark series for this type is well-documented in RIC VIII.
