The FEL TEMP REPARATIO ("Happy Times Are Here Again") coinage was launched in 348 AD to celebrate the 1,100th anniversary of Rome's founding — an empire-wide propaganda exercise that flooded mints from London to Alexandria with bronze at a scale not seen for decades. Constans was the junior Augustus ruling the western provinces at the time, though his reign would end abruptly in January 350 when the usurper Magnentius staged a coup at a dinner party in Autun, having Constans hunted down and killed near the Pyrenees.
The Rome mint's output for this type, catalogued as RIC VIII 140, is notably scarcer than parallel issues from Siscia or Thessalonica, which bore the heaviest production burden for the series.
