Reverse description The Phoenix, symbol of eternal renewal and imperial felicity, stands facing left atop a rocky mound or funeral pyre rendered as a globular heap of stones. The bird is depicted with a radiate crown or nimbus around its head, its wings slightly spread, and detailed feathering on its body. The composition alludes to the cyclical regeneration of the Roman Empire. The encircling legend FEL TEMP REPARATIO proclaims the restoration of happy times, and the mint mark PLG or A·LG appears in the exergue, identifying the Lugdunum mint, first officina.
