The FEL TEMP REPARATIO ("happy times are returning") series was launched empire-wide around 348 AD to mark the 1100th anniversary of Rome's traditional founding date. The sheer volume of production was extraordinary — Alexandria was one of at least a dozen mints simultaneously striking the type, which accounts for the relative abundance of surviving examples across all conditions.
RIC VIII #60 places this issue firmly within Alexandria's output under Constans, the youngest of Constantine I's three surviving sons, who controlled Egypt and the eastern dioceses until his overthrow and murder by the usurper Magnentius in January 350.
