| Obverse description | Nude male youth (ephebe) seated on horseback, the horse prancing to left with raised forelegs, rendered in fine high relief with careful anatomical detail. The rider is depicted bare-chested and helmeted, turned slightly in three-quarter view. The Greek letter ΕΥ appears in the right field, while the magistrate's name abbreviation ΖΩΠΥ is inscribed in the lower field beneath the horse's hooves. The composition reflects the accomplished die-cutting of the Tarentine school, characteristic of the early third century BC. |
