| Beschrijving keerzijde | A meticulously rendered barley ear, the emblematic type of Metapontion, occupies the central field, its heavily bearded spike depicted with great naturalistic detail and flanked by a curving leaf to the right. The stalk extends to the lower border of the flan, and the composition conveys the agricultural prosperity for which the city was renowned in antiquity. The ethnic abbreviation MET is inscribed downward in the left field, identifying the issuing city. The incuse border frames the design within an irregular but well-defined boundary typical of Lucanian hammered silver coinage of this period. |
