Obverse description Nude youth on horseback cantering to left, his body rendered with fine anatomical detail characteristic of late Classical Greek craftsmanship. The rider holds a round shield (aspis) in his outstretched left hand, its boss clearly delineated in high relief. The magistrate's abbreviation ΣI appears in the upper right field, while the engraver's signature ΦΙΛΟΚΛΗΣ is inscribed along the lower exergual border. The horse is depicted in a vigorous canter, its musculature and mane rendered with considerable artistic skill.
