Additional information

Nola was an Oscan-speaking city in Campania that maintained its own silver coinage independently of the Greek colonies surrounding it, striking nomoi that drew heavily on South Italian Greek weight standards while asserting a distinct civic identity. The city's later history is dominated by Roman sieges — Nola was the site of several engagements during the Samnite Wars — but these coins predate that conflict, placing this issue in a period when Nola operated with genuine autonomy. The ANS and BMC references both treat this series as scarce, with relatively few specimens recorded in major collections.
