| Obverse description | Head of Demeter facing left, her hair elaborately dressed and bound with a grain wreath, adorned with a stephane and decorated with a small flying Eros figure amid the tresses. The modelling is of fine South Italian style, with delicate rendering of the facial features and richly ornamented coiffure characteristic of the mid-fourth century BC Metapontine coinage. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hammered coinage of this period. |
