Obverse description Nude helmeted warrior on horseback right, the horse prancing and being restrained by Nike standing to left before it; the rider holds a shield on his left arm and a spear in his right hand. Nike extends her arm toward the horse's bridle in a restraining gesture. The legend M KAΛ appears in the field, likely denoting a magistrate's name. The composition is dynamic and characteristic of the high-quality die engraving associated with Tarentine coinage of the late 4th century BC.
