| Reverse description | The reverse presents the same barley ear type in incuse relief, a hallmark of early Achaean colonial coinage in Magna Graecia, whereby the obverse design is sunk into the reverse die to produce a mirror-image impression. The stalk and spreading awns are clearly discernible in the incuse field, faithfully reproducing the obverse composition in negative. The surrounding border consists of a ribbed or striated incuse ring rather than a beaded border, characteristic of the incuse technique employed at Metapontion during this early archaic period. No legend appears on the reverse. |
