Obverse description Head of Demeter or Leukippos facing right, depicted with finely rendered wavy hair bound with a grain wreath, wearing pendant earrings and a necklace; the hair falls in long locks behind the neck. The portrait is executed in the elegant late Classical style characteristic of Metapontine coinage of the mid-fourth century BC. The letter Α appears in the left field. The overall workmanship reflects the high artistic standard of the Lucanian mint.
