Obverse description Eagle standing to left with wings fully spread, rendered in bold high relief with finely detailed feathering across the wings and body. The bird is depicted in the act of perching upon a dead hare, which lies prostrate beneath its powerful talons. The composition fills the flan dynamically, conveying the fierce and majestic quality characteristic of South Italian Greek coinage of this period. The field is plain and unlettered, with the naturalistic rendering of the eagle reflecting the accomplished die-cutting tradition of Lokroi Epizephyrioi.
