| Obverse description | Draped bust of Demeter facing right, her elaborately arranged hair bound with a fillet and rendered in finely engraved wavy locks swept back from the face. A pendant earring, depicted as a small droplet, hangs from her visible ear. The bust is truncated at the neck, which bears a delicate beaded necklace, and the modelling of the facial features — high cheekbones, slightly downcast eyes, and a refined profile — reflects the accomplished die-cutting tradition of Magna Graecia in the early fourth century BC. |
