Obverse description Draped bust of Demeter facing right, rendered in fine archaic-transitional Greek style. The goddess wears a plain fillet binding her elaborately waved and coiffed hair, with a pendant earring visible at the ear. Her facial features are delicately modeled with a refined, idealized profile characteristic of South Italian Greek coinage of the early fourth century BC. The hair falls in detailed strands behind the neck, and the portrait is set within a plain circular border.

Reverse description A tall, finely detailed ear of barley (or wheat) occupies the center of the field, with prominent lateral grains rendered in sharp relief and a single curved leaf sweeping to the left. To the left of the stalk, the ethnic inscription META appears divided, with the letters ME positioned to the left of the stalk and T above, all in incuse Greek characters. The design is set within a shallow incuse square typical of early Metapontine coinage, reflecting the city's celebrated agricultural prosperity and its devotion to Demeter.
