Obverse description Facing left, the veiled and wreathed head of Demeter rendered in fine relief in the South Italian Greek style, her elaborately dressed hair bound with a fillet and adorned with a pendant earring visible at the neck. The tresses are rendered in deeply engraved wavy locks swept back from the face and gathered in a voluminous mass, with individual strands delineated with exceptional artistry. The portrait occupies the full flan, with the facial features — a graceful profile, delicate lips, and a softly rounded chin — executed in a naturalistic idiom characteristic of the later Classical period. The plain field provides no inscription on this side.

Reverse description A large, centrally placed barley ear of seven grains dominates the flan, the individual grains rendered in high relief with finely incised striations conveying botanical precision — the iconic emblem of Metapontion and its fertile agricultural territory. A curved leaf extends to the lower right of the stalk, its tip curling elegantly inward. The city ethnic ΜΕΤΑ is inscribed in archaic Greek retrograde letters to the left of the ear, while the magistrate's abbreviated name ΛΥ appears to the right, both legends disposed vertically in the field flanking the central device.
