Kyzikos dominated electrum coinage in the Aegean for much of the fifth and fourth centuries, producing an enormous and varied series of hektes that circulated far beyond the Propontis. This myshemihekte — one-sixteenth of a stater — represents the smallest denomination in that system, struck primarily to facilitate fine commercial transactions and mercenary pay-splitting in an economy where silver fractions were not always trusted at distance.
The H&L I#1b attribution places this among the earliest recognized die pairings in the series.
