Additional information

Ranjit Singh's gold coinage was deliberately struck in the name of Guru Nanak — a political and devotional choice that separated Sikh imperial currency from the Mughal-derived conventions still used by neighboring powers. The Amritsar mint held particular significance as the religious center of Sikhism, making its output more than administrative necessity.

KM#23 is known with some variability in striking pressure across dies, a product of the Amritsar mint's less standardized production relative to the Lahore facility. Weight tolerance on quarter mohurs from this period runs noticeably wider than the nominal.
