| Obverse description | The obverse bears a multi-line Persian legend in fluid Nasta'liq script filling the entire field, reading the royal proclamation of Shahrukh as servant of the threshold of Reza, with the AH date 1162 inscribed in the lower portion. The inscription is arranged in three or four sweeping calligraphic lines, characteristic of Afsharid hammered gold coinage. The field is bounded by a beaded inner border, with an additional plain outer border following the irregular flan edge. The bold, deeply struck lettering demonstrates the accomplished die-cutting tradition of the Mashhad mint. The coin exhibits the characteristic slightly uneven flan shape typical of hammered gold issues of this period. |
