| Obverse description | The obverse displays a bold, two-register field of elegant Nasta'liq calligraphy in high relief, occupying virtually the entire flan. The upper register bears the royal epithet proclaiming Nader Shah as Sultan over sultans of the world and Shah of Shahs, while the lower register continues with his name and the honorific title Sahib-Qiran (Lord of the Auspicious Conjunction), together with the accession regnal year 1148 AH at the base. The calligraphic lines are separated by a horizontal rule, and small pellet ornaments punctuate the field, characteristic of the Afsharid Type D issue. The striking is bold and the legends are rendered in a flowing, large-format script that fills the rounded flan to its edges. |
