| Beschrijving voorzijde | The entire field is covered with bold, fluid nasta'liq calligraphy in Arabic script, characteristic of late Safavid hammered gold coinage. The royal legend reading 'Sultan Ismail, May God immortalize his kingdom' (سلطان اسمعیل خلد الله ملکه) occupies the central field, executed in deeply struck, overlapping strokes. The AH date 1165 appears prominently within the inscription. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-struck Safavid mohurs, with the legend extending nearly to the unbordered rim. The overall die work reflects the characteristic calligraphic artistry of the mid-eighteenth century Safavid mint tradition. |
