Obverse description The obverse displays a multi-line Persian calligraphic legend elegantly struck in bold nasta'liq script, filling the entire field and arranged in three horizontal registers separated by cartouche-like linear dividers. The inscription invokes the name of the eighth Shi'a Imam, Ali ibn Musa al-Rida, and records the mint name Esfahan, consistent with Safavid religious and numismatic tradition. A finely beaded border encircles the entire design, framing the densely inscribed field. The lettering is deeply and crisply struck, with characteristic bold strokes and fluid curves typical of late Safavid coin engraving. No pictorial devices appear; the design relies entirely on the aesthetic quality of the calligraphy.
