| Obverse description | Central field bearing the crowned Portuguese royal arms — the escutcheon of five bezants arranged in a cross (quinas), surrounded by a bordure of castles — all within a beaded inner circle. The denomination mark 4400 (indicating 4400 réis) appears to the right of the shield. The circumferential Latin legend, partially visible due to the irregular flan, reads PETRVS.D.G.P.PORTVGALIÆ.ET, with a date appearing alongside the denomination numeral. The design is characteristic of late seventeenth-century Portuguese hammered gold coinage struck under Prince Regent Pedro. |

| Reverse description | Central type consisting of a large ornate cross of the Order of Christ, rendered in the distinctive Portuguese style with splayed and decorated terminals, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A royal crown surmounts the cross at the top of the inner circle. The surrounding circumferential Latin legend reads +IN.HOC.SIGNO.VINCES (In this sign thou shalt conquer), separated by pellets and enclosed between an inner and outer beaded border. The entire design is typical of the hammered gold moeda series of the Portuguese Prince Regent period. |
