| Beschrijving keerzijde | A large eagle with closed wings stands left upon a thunderbolt, its head turned sharply to the right in the characteristic Ptolemaic reverse type. The plumage is rendered with careful engraving, showing individual feather rows on the wings and breast. The Greek legend ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΟΠΑΤΟΡΟΣ runs around the periphery within a beaded border, with the Sidonian mint control letters ΣΩ / ΣΙ inscribed in two lines in the right field beside the eagle. The composition follows the established iconographic programme of Ptolemaic gold coinage, with the thunderbolt underscoring the king's divine associations with Zeus. |
