The circular marginal legend carries the Shi'a Kalima: 'La ilaha illa Allah — Muhammad rasul Allah — Ali wali Allah,' affirming the Safavid dynasty's Shi'a theological identity. The overall composition reflects the distinctive Safavid coinage programme that incorporated Shi'a doctrine directly into the monetary iconography. |
