Additional information

Babur died in December 1530, making any coin struck in his name at Lahore during that year almost certainly a product of his final months — he had held the Punjab only since 1526 following the First Battle of Panipat. The Lahore mint was among the first imperial facilities reactivated under Mughal administration, and gold mithqals from this transitional moment are exceptionally scarce; the dynasty had not yet developed the standardized administrative apparatus that would later make Mughal coinage prolific under Akbar.
