| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central cartouche enclosing the royal title of Shah Abbas I in elegant thuluth script, reading 'Bande-ye Shah-e Velayat Abbas' (Servant of the King of Sanctity, Abbas), together with the mint name Qazvin and the regnal year 997 AH. The densely interlaced calligraphic field fills the flan with characteristically Safavid cursive strokes, with a continuous marginal legend encircling the central zone. The hammered flan imparts an irregular, slightly convex surface, and the deeply incised letters stand in bold relief against the smooth gold ground. The composition exemplifies the refined Safavid epigraphic coinage tradition, in which calligraphy itself serves as the primary decorative and devotional medium. |
