正面描述 Central heraldic shield bearing the arms of Burgundy occupies the inner field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in the schematic style characteristic of late medieval Low Countries hammered copper coinage, reflecting Burgundian suzerainty over the issuing lordship. A continuous Latin legend in Gothic lettering encircles the shield in the outer field, with pellet or rosette stops dividing the words. The die work, consistent with small-denomination mites of mid-fifteenth century Low Countries lordships, exhibits the irregular striking typical of hand-hammered flans of this period.

附加信息

Joan of Merwede held Gerdingen and Stein through inheritance from her father Willem van Merwede, making her one of the relatively few female lords issuing coinage in the Low Countries during the fifteenth century. Her minting rights were contested — small lordships of this type frequently faced pressure from larger neighbors, and the copper mite was the lowest practical denomination such a jurisdiction could strike while still asserting monetary authority over local markets.

The Lucas reference places this among a thin documentary record; the vdCh gap notation signals no die pairing has been firmly established in that corpus.
