| Obverse description | Two crowned imperial busts facing, the left figure wearing a loros and the right a chlamys, both with crowns adorned with pendilia. Between the busts, a tall cross crosslet set upon a three-stepped base, with a pellet-in-crescent device on the shaft — a direct imitation of Byzantine miliaresion iconography. The composition is rendered in a provincial style, with bold but irregular relief characteristic of Tmutarakan coinage. The flan is irregular and somewhat ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-hammered production. |
