Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, rendered in low relief characteristic of Byzantine hammered silver coinage. The emperor is depicted wearing an imperial diadem adorned with pendilia, with visible drapery over the shoulder. A beaded border of large pellets encircles the field, a defining feature of this emission. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVG, identifying the emperor as Dominus Noster Justinianus Perpetuus Augustus. The flan is irregular in outline, typical of hand-struck silver issues of the sixth-century Constantinople mint.
