Obverse description Central field depicts the crowned Visconti biscione (viper or serpent) device — a large winged, crested serpent shown in profile facing left, devouring a human figure, surmounted by a ducal crown. The heraldic charge is rendered in relief with considerable detail in the Late Gothic hammered style. The device is enclosed within an inner beaded circle, with the circumferential Latin legend running between the beaded border and the outer rim of the flan.
