| Obverse description | Central type featuring a tall, stylized date palm tree with drooping fronds depicted in low relief, flanked on either side by the Hebrew letters shin (ש) to the right and mem (מ) to the left, abbreviating the name Shimon (Simon bar Kokhba). The inscription is rendered in paleo-Hebrew script characteristic of the Bar Kokhba revolt coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with the design struck off-center as is typical of this hammered issue. |
