Gábrišovky are private membership scrip issued by a Slovak collectors' association founded by Matej Gábriš, who also designs the notes himself — an unusual arrangement where the subject, issuer, and artist are effectively the same person. The series functions as annual membership tokens rather than exchange currency, with each year's issue serving as proof of dues paid for that cycle.
The watermark on a privately produced collectors' piece is a deliberate affectation — a nod to official banknote production rather than any anti-counterfeiting necessity.
