Obverse description Full-length effigy of King Fernando I standing facing, crowned and clad in full armour, holding an upright sword in his right hand and resting his left hand upon a shield charged with five besants arranged in the Portuguese quinas pattern, the whole set beneath a Gothic architectural canopy with flanking pinnacles; small crosses appear in the fields to left and right of the figure. The surrounding legend in Gothic lettering reads within a beaded border. The composition reflects the high Gothic style typical of late 14th-century Iberian royal coinage.
