Reverse description A British soldier in combat uniform stands defiantly on rocky coastal ground, holding a rifle in his left hand and raising his right fist toward the sky, where a formation of warplanes flies through stormy clouds above crashing waves. The designer's and maker's credits LOW, DES. and SPINK, FEC. appear on either side of the exergue line, with the quoted legend "VERY WELL, ALONE" below, referencing David Low's famous 1940 cartoon.
